Despite being a music medium invented in 1948, the vinyl format is still considered by many today as being the superior way of listening to music in audiophile systems, despite the wealth of hi-resolution streaming, ultra low noise floor, and bit perfect digital formats now readily available. This belief that vinyl is the gold standard in music entertainment was likely established in part by the efforts of Mo-Fi in 1977 when the company opened the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, a record label dedicated to producing audiophile vinyl releases using a half-speed mastering process.
